Average Age of an Alcoholic?
Question by 19stepsup: Average age of an alcoholic?
My father is an alcoholic, and as been far before I was born. He would go through phases, heavy drinking, sobriety(usually admitted to rehab center or hospital) and be better for a few months, then would slowly start drinking again til it got worst and he went to rehab again. He’s had seizures(hasn’t had them for months now) and smokes. He’s 56, and currently lives in a nursing home and is on medication. The nursing home monitors his health so he is doing ok now, but I’m worried about him long term. His liver isn’t perfect, but isn’t failing either. His lungs apparently show no sign of damage from smoking. He doesn’t do any other type of drugs. He’s always been open in admitting he has a problem drinking but swears he’s never done drugs, plus in all the rehab places he tested negative. He’s on the thin side, so no worries over obesity issues either.
Please help. I’m 19, and little afraid of losing him. Even with all his issues, he’s still my father, and a great man when he is sober.
