Are Societal Mores, Stigmas, Ignorance and Hate Hindering the Understanding and Treatment of Pedophillia?
The word “Pedophile” immediately conjurers up images of rape and torture in the minds of most people. They have come to believe that Rape and Pedophilia ALWAYS act in unison.
Who can blame them?
Part of it comes from plain ignorance and the inability to examine the meaning of two words and understand the two different definitions.
Most of those that claim to be informed scientifically are mostly basing their beliefs on studies done that are inheritantly flawed due to the Sampling Bias in those studies. More on this later.
Also, Pedophilia is considered by many to be “Evil”. So those out there who consider themselves “Good” will neglect the facts entirely and seek to destroy this Evil by any means necessary. A sort of an “Eye for an Eye” policy which I need not reveal the source of but has shown to be a particularly tough barrier in this sense.
I sat here for almost half an hour typing out the barriers that were to follow the ones stated above I realized that they can really be summed up quite simply: Fear, Fallacies, Ignorance, and Hate.
I mentioned above a Sampling Bias. So, I ask you the questions: How do “civilized” societies identify the Pedophiles that exist within them?
Primarily through their own Justice Systems. What will studies based on these individuals tell you? Only about Pedophiles that have acted on their thoughts through interactions with minors, directly or indirectly. This leaves no room to address the people who are innundated with Pedophillic thoughts but choose not act on them but are equally as important as the others in the prevention of abuse and understanding of the state of mind.
And one would ask: Why don’t these people make themselves known so they can contribute?
Honestly, if you need me to answer that then you have ignored the underlying and apparent messages in this article.
Pedophillia is a problem that is becoming ever more recognized but hardly understood or prevented. People can get their alcoholism, drug abuse, and other sexual and psychological problems treated. These things end and pervert life on a collosal scale. These things have also shown some resiliency in prevention and conclusion through incarceration.
What is standing in the way?
You can witness these barriers in action simply by carefully and objectively reading some of these answers.
