Alcoholic Leaving Rehab Against Medical Advice!?

Question by Sonnet D: Alcoholic leaving rehab against medical advice!?
My friend has been in rehab for alcoholism for a week and a half, and says he can not stay any longer. He is on a county funded insurance (Medicaid?), and has given his 72 hour notice to check out of the inpatient center. However, the staff at the rehab is telling him that he won’t be able to receive outpatient care if he checks out against their recommendation.

We would all prefer that he stayed the full 28 days, but is it true that he won’t be able to get aftercare covered if he does leave the center early?

Any help or guidance would be so appreciated!

Medicaid is a state funded insurance, not county funded. Since your friend had made the decision to leave rehab, he is rejecting treatment for alcoholism. He will not be able to receive outpatient treatment because he is leaving rehab against doctors recommendations. If he needed inpatient treatment it is certain that outpatient treatment will not work. You cannot help a drunk that doesn’t want help and there is no need to continue wasting taxpayers money on a person like that.

Don’t be surprised if he is drunk out of his mind within 6 hours of leaving rehab if he lasts that long.
