What to do when counseling and medicine doesn't cure depression and it leads to drug abuse?
I have been clinically diagnosed with depression for 4 years but I have been suffering from it for much longer. I started coping with my depression with spouts of anger and rage towards by friends and family but over the years it has progressed. I began self injuring myself 4 years ago and then I finally started seeing a counselor. I thought I was getting better but I soon found that my prescribed anti depressant caused me to gain 50 pounds and the counseling sessions weren't enough. I then quit the medication and the counseling and found myself self injuring again, but with more intensity. When I couldn't cut anymore because I'm on swim team and couldn't hide it , I began smoking pot. The two then became interchangeable and I would do whichever one I could do that day. I started seeing a counselor again and taking a different kind of medication which has helped my school work improve but i am still struggling. I recently started taking prescription pain killers and I don't think I am addicted, but I am taking several every day. My depression doesn't seem to be getting any better and my way of dealing with it is getting worse and worse. What should I do since every single day is a struggle and medicine counseling isn't helping?I have tried a variety of medications but I have terrible side effects to SSRI's. I am currently taking Vyvanse. I absolutely love my counselor and she really helps with the problems I portray, but I can't seem to talk about or handle all of the underlying causes for my depression. I am actively involved with my church, art classes and my swim team but no matter what, I can't pull myself out of this rut. I'm also only 18.

a woman i work with has a serious pill problem. she has told me that she switches doctors all of the time when she runs out of her prescriptions so that she can get more pills. a month's worth of vicodin or xanax lasts her about a week. she gets doctors to up her dose or lies and says she lost the bottle until they cut her off, then she finds a new doctor and manages to get a new scrip which she fills at a new pharmacy. my boss is ready to fire her, as her behavior and appearance is terrible at this point. my question is, how do these doctors and pharmacies not know her habits? why would a new doctor not ask for her medical history or charts? i'm pretty sure this is going to kill her. can i do anything?

I have a family member who exhibits the symptoms above and I am wanting to get help and know which drugs they are on. I believe it may be methadone combined with marijuana, pain pills, and alcohol. The most notable symptom seen is passing out, even when in environments with people, and the bulldog looking face. Facial expression where the eyebrows tend to frown in towards the nose, the mouth hangs open and the eyes nearly shut and body movement extremely slow. Can anyone provide feedback on which drug this may be and provide similiar pictures depicting this symptom and use of this drug?Thanks in advance for any help received

I was wondering which is more of a threat. Suicide Self Harm or Drug Abuse? I personally think cutting is more used as some consider it a Drug AND you don't have to sneak around to get a knive, though I suppose hiding the cuts might be harder than hiding Drug Abuse, for with drug abuse there arn't as many defined effects left afterwards. I'm torn really. So what do you think?
